Redesign thinkings

I’ve always been a fan of clean design, and keeping things simple and to the point. I’m getting a lot of opportunities to put that into practice at Snow Valley over here in London. With this in mind I’m once again contemplating a redesign. Typical web designer behaviour no doubt, and later this year will […]

Recent stuff…

This was going to be a happy 2008 post but half way through February makes it a bit late for that, and I’m not going to make it a Valentine’s Day (”You’ll Do” day) themed post. So anyway, what’s news here then?

The significant other and I are still living it large in London-town. We’ve […]

Back on the air…

I’ve just been moving server over the past couple of days, all should be up on the new location, complete with a much more generous bandwidth limit as well as a more generous disk space and mailbox size, and hopefully slightly faster.
During the name server change over, I’ve had to slightly reconfigure my blog database […]

Gradient Dropshadow Curve turns 3…

Time goes by, we get a little older. We travel through 4 continents, we move to other countries and get new jobs.
This blog sees another year… yes that’s 3 years of half-arsed blogging.
It’s August again…
(And I *did* get that redesign done!)

Rebooted!

The new site is up and in time for the Nov 1 Reboot!
I’m still ironing out the odd issue here and there, but it’s pretty much all there so have a squiz about the place…
A few features:

Much more customised Wordpress implementation, different page templates rather than the usual Wordpress one size-fits-all approach
Liquid/elastic layout. The layout […]

Introducing…. hank-monster!

Here’s a sneak preview of one element of my new site design… The marvellous Anton of AntonGraphics has generously developed a character for use in my new site design in exchange for some solid XHTML and CSS (on his soon to be relaunched portfolio site) and of course the money he normally pays me to […]

Travel plans

Okay, so from here on for a fair while this blog will contain more and more posts about travel in the lead up to, and obviously during, Meg’s and my big ’round the world trip in November. I’ll still be adding the odd geek article wherever I can, and if I manage to get to […]

Big news…

Okay, the word is now officially out - the lovely Megan and I are embarking on an extended around the world trip, spanning five continents stopping at London for an extended period where we will work and continue the European leg of our trip. We plan to be away from Sydney for about 18-24 months.
Prior […]

Gradient Dropshadow Curve turns 2

I was just browsing through the archives here and just realised that Gradient Dropshadow Curve turned 2 this month. (Note to self: redesign due!)
That’s 2 years of blogging. What have I learned? Probably not a lot other than comment spam never sleeps…
I’m yet to figure out much about the audience of this site. What sort […]

The slow move to Gradient Dropshadow Curve 3.0…

The long hard road to an overhaul has begun.
I have had a few stop-starts on a redesign for Gradient Dropshadow Curve. The latest stop sees me leaving the design aside for a while and looking into technology, specifically, upgrading Wordpress. Actually the real reason is the unrelenting barrage of comment-spam I get on this site […]

More Posts?

I have a paradoxical situation on my hands. I know I don’t post nearly enough here. Yet I also know that I have interesting dialogues with interesting people and find weird and interesting things on the web all the time.
So, in a bold yet somewhat predictable move, I am going to change my posting policy […]

You know podcasting is really popular when…

OK so I’m at the bus stop and there’s an old guy with some sort of cheap third-party iPod, and he’s listening to a podcast of horse racing!
Amazing! This technology is really hitting the bigtime, even old guys in the street are using it. This guy must have had wireless broadband on there too because […]

The Business of Blogging

An article I wrote for Glass Onion’s eNewsletter about the business benefits of running a blog.

Minor update

Sorry I’ve been slack with the updates this week. Work has been way busy. Business has really picked up this year, as a lot of you from around my neck of the woods will agree…
New section added to the site, an archive for links so they don’t disappear into the ether once they drop […]

Gradient Dropshadow Curve goes ‘live’

Woo! Today is the day that Gradient Dropshadow Curve comes out from hiding away in a staging location to live and public proper (although the omniscient Mr Google managed to find it anyway).
I have to sift through and manually fix some of the links in some previous posts so they work and fix the […]

New Stuff: Work

I’ve just added in a new section “Work” to the site in the last few days. Just a small showcase of what I’ve been up to for the past couple of years in terms of paid work. A mini-portfolio, if you will. Had to brush up with my JS/DOM scripting to make the image changer […]

Welcome to WordPress: part II

It’s been one week since installing WordPress as my blog engine, and I’ve tweaked the source, reskinned and renamed it. My significant other has been out of town for the weekend, and though tempted to sit in front of the TV, drinking beer and scratching myself, I decided to devote some time to properly designing […]

Welcome to WordPress

So I’ve got a bit of a long weekend happening at the moment. Monday off for a day in lieu for doing crazy hours at work. Anyway, going to have a big day all over town tomorrow.
But in the meantime, I’ve decided to set up WordPress and join the ranks of the blogging […]
