About

Me

profile photoHello! I’m an experience designer from Sydney, Australia. I started out as an old-school webmaster around 15 years ago before going into freelance web design. Around 10 years ago I got into agency work, creating sites for government organisations, financial companies and consumer brands.

Late in 2006, my fiancée and I took a sabbatical and went travelling around Asia and the Americas, and then laid our backpacks down in the UK, where we gained good work experience (and saw bits and pieces of Europe whenever we could).

In 2010 I returned to my home town of Sydney after working in London for three years in e-commerce user experience, designing sites for leading UK retailers.

In 2011 I took a position at Atlassian in Sydney, working as a UI and Interaction designer on one of their leading products.

In my work I aim for an honest and clean aesthetic that balances beauty with usability. I believe that Dieter Rams’ 10 principles of good design are as relevant today as when he wrote them back in the 70s.

I’m really interested in how we experience our environment, and how we can improve that experience through design and technology. I’m also a firm believer in lifelong learning, in whatever form that may take.

This site

I’m running this site using the ever-popular Wordpress blogging platform, using a theme I rolled myself, while using various plugins for extra bits and pieces of functionality.

In general, the typefaces I’m using are Tisa for body text and Superclarendon for the headings (but some posts may vary from this combination). I’m now using Typekit to display custom fonts.
