The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy comes to the big screen
I hate getting caught up in the buzz of “long awaited” films, but I have to say, the upcoming adaptation of Douglas Adams‘ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has caught my interest.
The cast choice seems pretty awesome, including Martin Freeman (who most of us know as Tim from BBC TV’s The Office) as Arthur Dent and Sam Rockwell (previously appearing in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, brilliant as “Guy” from Galaxy Quest) as a curiously one-headed Zaphod Beeblebrox. Hip-hop aficionados would recognise the eminently respectable Mos Def as Ford Prefect, and Alan Rickman provides the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android, actually played by your friend and mine, Warwick Davis (Wicket the Ewok, Willow, the Leprechaun from the Leprechaun movies, including Leprechaun in the Hood). There’s also Bill Bailey from Black Books, John Malkovich from that John Malkovich movie and the list just goes on… awesome stuff.
IGN has just released some exclusive photos of the Vogons, and they’re looking great, kind of big and scary in an alien way, but also fat and bureaucratic. Everyone who has read the books would probably have imagined what the characters look like in their own different way, but I think this is a great interpretation.
The movie comes out in May…
