DiegoMartinez.co.uk

Just this week, artist, poet, charity store aficionado and good mate of mine, Diego Martinez-Montano, launched his little personal art journal site. I lent him a hand with designing and building the site (by developing a custom wordpress theme).

The design is strong in colour but super simple and aims to let the words and images do the talking. Diego’s a prolific guy, always taking great photos, painting crazy images and writing deep thoughts, so I’ll be visiting often to see what’s new.

  1. Very cool site, but index page a bit too minimalistic perhaps?

  2. Hi Gunnar, thanks – I hear where you’re coming from and I wouldn’t normally design sites this minimally but I find it’s quite effective for art sites or those that are predominantly visual (and typically what the site owner wants).

Still, food for thought in a process of constant improvement, so thanks for the feedback.

  3. looks cool,
I am currently developing something similar , it’s a gallery-blog hybrid, I call id a Glog..it’s got all the advantages of a blog like tags, rss etc. but it can be viewed as a blog or alternatively as thumbnails depending on the user – each update is image based with an accompanying blob where the artist describes his/her work… I am a genius, wasting my time reinventing Flickr

  4. That’s interesting Ross. I’ve been working with that kind of idea on another artist site (incidentally an artist you know). Although this is not really a blog at all, but let’s you click through the various works via thumbnail navigation, and it is based on Wordpress.

    And probably even more minimal:
    JessMacNeil.com

I’ll probably separately write about Jess’ site soon.

  5. I am gonna run Glenn and my own site through the new system, it will allow the artist to easily add images to his gallery and also allow to change things like headers, and contact details using a GUI and add stand alone pages if they like… still nutting it out but it should be ready to go in the next 2 weeks

  6. Sounds good, let me know when you’ve got it going…

  7. Pretty good post. I just came by your blog and wanted to say that I’ve really enjoyed reading your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

  8. site is pretty cool. I always enjoy looking at different types of site designs and layouts!
